Rarely has matchbook design said more about a business than the Empire Club. When opened (design at left), the Empire was continuing the exclusive jazz stylings of Odell Jones' predecessor, The Clover Club. But it was apparent that the jazz club days were gone by the mid-1960s as the Empire Club became what is now considered more of a “gentleman’s club” with its transformation to live risqué floor shows augmented later with adult film shorts.
