Artist, photographer and Tecoma resident Charlie Hammond, painted this sketch of Tecoma in 1944. The sketch includes a view of the rear of the former Star Picture Theatre building. Hammond’s picture shows the roof ventilation, necessary if the audience was to breath.

The hills have very little in the way of history. Most of the hills was unsettled but plundered up to about 1890-1900. Eccentrics and others have come and gone without leaving much behind. Charlie Hammond was a very special artist, photographer, gardener and he left a record of his stay. It may be that his garden, his paintings and his photographs are very much under-rated by most.
