Some things are hard to let go of. Here, in 1926, the Home Theater is creating a new theater and has a naming contest. And the winner? Well, it’s wasn’t the Peek-A-Boo sent in by the nine year old, not the Wide-a-Wake Theater, not the Well-Crow Palace, not the Sackuvesta, not the Bluebonnet, not even the Felicity Meaning a Place for Happiness Theatre? They choose “Rialto”? Rialto is the name in use. like. everywhere in the country? Irving Fishe was on the take from the jump, folks! Crowell is still talking about it 100 years after the fact - perhaps.
And so it was on December 6, 1926 that the Rialto was christened with the Harold Lloyd film playing.
