Poitier had two first-run films that played at Academy circuit theaters in 1964. His 18th film, “Lilies of the Field” opened in January. He was second-billed in “The Long Ships,” in which he was reunited with Richard Widmark, the star of Poitier’s first movie. This adventure action movie came out in July. His new movies played widely in second-run theaters and the Downtown second-run house, the Southern. Given an especially extensive showing in the area was “Lilies of the Field,” after Sidney Poitier won the Oscar as Best Actor.
