Mr Spence had allowed his screening license to lapse when it fell due 12th January 1961. It was not long after the theater was formally de-registered (on 17th June 1964) that some well-meaning bright spark involved with the youth club suggested that leasing the hall out for film screenings might be a good fund raising pursuit. It was soon discovered that the authorities would require considerable work to be done to attain satisfactory safety and sanitary standards. Undeterred, volunteer workers slowly set about attending to renovations which were eventually completed in early 1968. By this time all plans for a commercial use of the venue had been dropped.
