June 26, 2018 The beginnings - A GROUP of film enthusiasts are bringing the Arcadia Cinema back to life by introducing monthly showings.

The newly created Stanthorpe Film Society will host screenings over the next five months as a way to provide locals with a place to watch movies on the silver screen.

The membership to the society will give patrons entry to the monthly screenings. (see below for joining costs at time of writing)

The films will only be open to people with memberships but will be at no extra cost.

President Keith Barnett said the society would save residents having to drive to Tenterfield or Warwick. “We thought it was a shame to have an empty cinema here,” Mr Barnett said.

The films shown will be chosen by the society members, with options from old classics to new releases.

The society is designed for adults to allow broadcasts of M15+ or MA15+ films.

The owners of the Arcadia Cinema have come on board with the project, including Stanthorpe’s very own projectionist Bernard Garth. Mr Barnett said the first five months will be a way to trial how popular the society will be with locals. “If it’s a flop obviously that will be the end of it, but if it takes off we’ll do it again next year.”

There are 2 options of membership:

​ OPTION 1 Pay $20 for your annual membership and then $10 for each standard film night

​OPTION 2 Pay $100 for both annual membership and entrance to all standard film nights. This is a $20 saving if you attend all 10 films also saves you the trouble of paying on the night.

Membership can be paid Direct Debit, see below for details, or at the door on film nights. Direct Debit payment is advised to secure your seat on the night in front of any queue at the door.

We run a small bar where you can purchase local wine by the glass and beer. We organise orders for Pizza prior to the film to be delivered at intermission.
