Cinesound Review newsreels, launched in the early 1930s by Ken G. Hall, were essential Australian cinema staples before television, showcasing local news, sports, and culture. As a premier, locally produced, and often, Oscar-nominated, sound newsreel, Cinesound provided a weekly dose of Australian life and international events.

Cinesound Review newsreels dominated newsreel theatrettes alongside rivals like Fox Movietone, operating until the late 1950s when television began.
