Playwright, 15, makes llocal) Carnegie Hall - A young Melbourne playwright, Frank Maas, has finally made Carnegie Hall — but it’s ,not the famous Carnegie Hall of New York, where the world’s cele brities appear. It’s the local Memorial Hall in Carnegie. Frank is only 15, but his play, The Actor, will have' a public reading next Wednesday night.
Yesterday he appeared not at all adolescent in his approach to the “big night.” He doesn’t expect thousands turned away, but he does hope to have a few people there who will appreciate his writing. Last night he tried out a scene (right) with Joy Van de Velde, who in the play, is his housekeeper, to Frank’s title role of the actor, and by day helps in the family cake shop at Glen Iris. (They both have remote Dutch ancestry) . Frank’s present occupation is office boy (his own words).
He wrote a play once before, purely for children, and 3DB broadcast it. He’s not worried about the reading. He thinks it will go well He intends to keep on writing. He sees plenty of work (both writing and office boy-ing) ahead.
