The original Kinema at Albert Park was a Hoyts house from its start in 1922 to when it was sold in 1938.
Hoyts in that year opened the fabulous Art Deco Park theatre just up the road. (This sadly became a petrol station about 1962.) The Kinema too was redesigned in 1938 and was taken over by an Independent chain. It wasn’t a particularly beautiful theatre, just a run of the mill suburban house - but it seemed to have a unique character all of its own - Donald Binks
It eventually was taken over by Cosmopolitan Motion Pictures and successfully catered for a Greek audience, until it finally closed down and was demolished in 1983.
