Port Hedland Picture Gardens 6 Wedge Street, Port Hedland, WA - Commemorative Mural

Port Hedland Picture Gardens 6 Wedge Street, Port Hedland, WA

The Port Hedland Picture Gardens commemorative mural depicted on this page has been supplied by the Port Hedland Centenary Committee Project, which has been organised by the Centenary Historical Sub-Committee and the Port Hedland Historical Society, inc.

The funding for the project is by the ANZ Bank. The mural has been designed and painted by Maureen Bonney & Narelle Maidment.

The screen was built by GBC.

The re-opening took place on Friday, 18 October 1996 with a screening of “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon”, which starred John Wayne. The booking of the film and the supply of the projector were organised by Mrs Joyce Glass & her son, Greg, with daughters Maureen and Peta. Mrs Glass and Mr Hayden Kenworthy, Manager of the ANZ Bank, dedicated the mural in the presence of Mayor Geoff Blackman and Centenary Chairman, Cr Arnold Carter.

Mr Ron Morley, who was a projectionist for the Glass family, showed the pictures on the night. The address of the gardens was always 6 Wedge St. The current address for the the Tourist Bureau is 13 Wedge St, with a car park between it, and the ANZ Bank on the wall of which the mural is painted.
