Successful Opening of the Picture Gardens.

A Large audience attended the opening on Wednesday of the New Oxford Picture Gardens in Newcastle street Leederville, which is not far from the New Oxford Theatre. The new picture gardens will be used in cold or wet weather. The gardens which are particularly spacious are laid out with flower beds, lawns and trees. Further flower beds have been laid outside the entrance gates, which have been designed in the Spanish style & stand a short distance back from the roadway. Deck chairs and garden seats are provided for the audience, and the screen is set in a proscenium of unusual oval design.

Western Electric apparatus ensured sound reproduction of the highest standard. The programme was headed by ‘The’ Countess of Monte Cristo in which Fay Wray and Paul Lukas play the principal parts. A Laurel and Hardy comedy ‘Sons of the Desert, headed the supporting programme, which also included a film showing the Melbourne Cup. The management intends to present new programmes four times weekly, a family night programme at cheap prices being presented every Friday.
