The Mascot Cinema Foyer 1932

This photo which I have had for years deserves a viewing even if it is fading and it will give you an idea of the Art Deco decorations within. The flooring was of pale marbleized rubberoid cut and inlaid with various coloured designs. The glazing is quite amazing. Set each side of the entrance doors are semi circular rose mirrors, either side of these were a further two shaped mirrors with boarders in blue and rose. Above are ten shaped decorated sand blasted glass panels with a crown of five larger panels surmounting the entrance, all of which illuminated, making quite a show I would believe, even with sunglasses!!! The cut back coffered ceiling is hand painted in geometric designs, for many years I thought they may be by interior cinema designer Eugene Mollo as there are several patterns similar to those he used over the years. However, without verification I must accept they are not. I feel patrons must have got their money’s worth from this spectacular show of lights and glazing alone, whatever the film was like…..
