March 31, 1989. The 1942 2-part Italian film “Noi vivi/Addio, Kira” re-issued in 1988 as a single and heavily modified movie by the Ayn Rand estate which acquired the rights. A stunning anti-totalitarian drama with great performances. Directed by Goffredo Alessandrini.

The original film(s) ran four hours. This re-issue version ran three hours as a single film. It played art houses across the US and garnered excellent reviews.
The Mussolini fascist government had not liked this movie and withdrew it, even though it was anti-Soviet. The fascists took it as possibly anti-fascist as well.
Saw Noi Vivi at the Bleeker Street Cinema in the Village back in the 80s. Wonderful film with two incredibly charismatic actors. It seemed to come out of nowhere and then disappear. It should be a revival house staple but I don’t think it is.
