This great Italian film KIDNAPPED (RAPITO) by Marco Bellocchio opened at the Avon Cinema in Providence on May 31, 2024. It dealt with the kidnapping of a Jewish child in 19th Century Rome by Pope Pius IX, taken from his parents and forcibly raised as a Catholic. The book by Brown’s David I. Kertzer, “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara,” was based on those same events.
