This one-time single screen Skouras-Prudential Theatres house on Jericho Turnpike was just ¼ mile west of the more impressive Cinema 150.
Originally constructed as a modern single screener in 1956, opening on October 20, 1956 with a special benefit screening of Gordon MacRea in “Oklahoma!”. It was equipped with Todd-AO. Seating was provided for 1,400 in orchestra and balcony levels. Later taken over by United Artists. On June 25, 1959 it was converted into a 3-strip Cinerama Theatre presenting “This Is Cinerama”.
It was triplexed on December 16, 1983, and closed on September 20, 1995. It was razed for retail space.

Cobwebs? I realize “Paint Your Wagon” has the reputation of being a flop, but it did, believe it or not, perform very well in some locales. For instance, it played reserved-seat runs for nine months in Dallas, Los Angeles and Vancouver. And in San Jose, it played over a year.
Paint Your Wagon a solid hit in Europe…Wondrin Star a number 1 hit in the UK for Lee Marvin believe it or not
Closed May 1989 per NY Daily News listings.
What was the surprise preview screened during the Syosset’s grand opening?
Possibly 10 COMMANDMENTS.
I did a search for “the biggest picture ever to come out of Hollywood”. Ad writers often reuse promotional text. The only link to that phrase came from a Philadelphia Inquirer article from about 1 month before the Syosset opened. That phrase is used in an article by Mike Connolly about the Ten Commandments. Not definite proof, but its definitely in the “Definitely, Could Be, Maybe” stage.
Article is in Philadelphia Inquirer October 8, 1956 Page 15.
Reopened with 3 screens on December 16th, 1983. Grand opening ad posted.

A chronology of Long Island’s 70mm presentations history has recently been published. The Syosset gets several mentions in the piece.
