The large blank oval area used to be open to the upper level mezzanine foyer - people could look down into the audience as they made their way to their seats - there were very ornate railings around the oval. A common feature for theatres in the late teens and early 1920’s. Noise was an obvious problem. This was sealed over during the 1993 renovation - the upper part of this space now has a bar area
