Projection from the rear of the stalls

1951 - after standing unused since 1949, St George’s Hall is being returned by Bradford council from cinema use to a civic public/concert hall. The projection room is at the rear of the stalls area and left of the axis, as seen in the photo: presumably the central pillar was the reason. Patrons entered at the doors to the left and the right and there were steps up to the aisles at the rear. Projection would have had an upward elevation. Below the centres of the ceiling features are the original Victorian ventilation features: gas rings to cause air to rise up and out of the roof vents - presumably not used in the cinema era.
