Regal cinema 1974 after the narrowing of the wide and pleasant opening known as the Strand. The left and right parapets of the Regal originally featured a large pair of decorative urns that contained Empire light shades, below these were recessed ribbed panels which also illuminated at night. To the right of the Regal the Restaurant and Milk bar has gone followed on the left by the Norfolk Hotel a few years later. The 1980’s saw the final closure of the Regal. Many locals at the time commented the Councils' mis management of the Strand contributed to its downfall.
