St George’s Theatre, Yarraville
The photo reflects the time when The St Georges Theatre was used as a Dance Hall & Dance School. Of interest if you look at the back wall you will see the projection ports, and we know that the projection booth was located down-stairs.
History - Next to Yarraville train station, St George’s Theatre was built in 1891 and has been variously a theatre, a cinema, and a ballroom dance studio. It was one of the locations for Baz Luhrmann’s 1992 film Strictly Ballroom, and has now been converted into apartments.
