Carolina Theatre

This is a picture of the Messenger Opera House in Goldsboro. However, you can see the small sign of the Carolina Theatre next door. I believe this picture is from the late 1930s.

Was the Opera House ever used as a movie house or was it strictly live performances?

The Messenger Opera House was never used as a movie theatre. The Opera House still stands today as a single story structure. The upper floors were damaged by Hurricane Hazel in Oct. 1954 and were removed. The Carolina Theatre that sit next to it was torn down late 60’s early 70’s.
