Mesa Theatre

The Modern Theatre section of the Sept. 3, 1955 issue of Boxoffice included this standalone photo pair of the Mesa’s marquee. The original caption:

A walk-in marquee, designed and being patented by Howard Wolf, has been in use for more than a year at the Mesa Theatre in Grand Junction, Colo. Built by the Western Neon Co., the marquee provides a space three by 12 feet for the attendant to change the letters without using ladders or other ?. Each attraction panel is equipped with rollers so that it can be pushed back into the sign box to permit the attendant to walk right out in front of it to change the letters. A simple mechanical device permits him to roll the panel back by pulling a lever which moves the attraction panel with very little effort and at the same time a safety bar pulls up into place to provide a guard rail. The illustration on the left shows the interior arrangement of the marquee, and the one on the right demonstrates how handily the letters can be changed.
