The South Yarra Regent was the first of the Ballantyne designed Regents. As such it was the prototype of the Adelaide, Sydney Ballarat and several New Zealand theatres. It was a very beautiful theatre in its own right, and I am proud (though sad that it is no longer there) to have some physical mementos of it, collected as it was being demolished, and to have given others to form integral parts of John Thiele’s superb private Regent, Balmoral in suburban Adelaide.
