Carmike Yorktowne Twin

Grand Opening Advertisement of the Yorktowne Theatre on the Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard on May 28, 1969. It was Durham’s second largest theater will widescreen Panavision projection and rocking lounge chair seating. Owned and operated under Schneider-Merl Theatres Group from 1969-1975. By 1975 it was operated under Atlanta-based Martin Theatres until 1982 when Carmike Cinemas took over the Yorktowne’s operations until it’s closing in 1996. It became a two-screen theatre on June 20, 1975 under Martin Theatres.
