The Tivoli silent film success of Ben Hur caused a wave of publicity including Romanesque revivals. The above light fitting was to be most popular for the manufacturer Hailwood & Ackroyd of Morley Leeds. Producing this four sided panelled “Hailware” moulded light fitting with detailed charioteer taken from the success of Ben Hur. Hailwood & Ackroyd who produced a whole range of cased glass lighting in their catalogues, especially for cinema interior designers and the charioteer pattern was one of the few catalogued between 1928 - 1938. This fitting was one of two that was removed from a cinema foyer in 1980.
