Forum Cinema Fulham Road

The Forum was to be the second of five that Herbert A Yapp’s Wyanbee Theatres built, all were designed by Architect John S Beard who was also Chairman of this small group of select cinemas. Above are the comments Yapp made in the opening souvenir brochure. This being my local cinema when I lived in London in the mid 1960’s and mostly went to the Forum on a week day afternoon. The entrance foyer rotunda was lit by Romanesque style bronzed torchieres with flambe shades attached to the surrounding columns. The auditorium central circular ceiling area supported this huge pleated crimson fabric representing a tent, the centre light fitting matching the lighting in the entrance. Some afternoons there were perhaps only a dozen people in the stalls which made the large area quite vast, during an interval looking up at the fabric above thinking had it ever been cleaned!!!
