The story of Barry Rogers
I was born in 1945 and lived at 12 Stanhope Street West Footscray in 1949 we moved to 180 Ballarat Road Footscray next to an ESSO Service Station which Kinnear’s took it over and used it for their company trucks and cars. My first school was Footscray Primary School (CNR Geelong Road & Commercial Road) and then Footscray Technical School where I also did my apprentice Carpenter training. I then got a job at Kinnear’s as a Carpenter where my Dad & Brother both work. The Carpenter workshop was about 1 minute from home as we had a gate in our back fence straight into Kinnear’s yard and workshop.
As I grew up I also work for Hoyts Theatre Company I started at the Trocadero Theatre as a Lolly Boy and then moved to the Barkly Theatre as an assistant projectionist.
The time goes on its now about 1965 and on a Friday night I would go dancing at the Orama Dance Hall where I meet a girl called Doreen we dated for a couple of years and we married in March 1967 we are still happy and going well.
