Cherryvale was home to a 300-seat theatre called the Star Theatre in 1909. During World War I, on Feb. 21 1918 it became the Liberty Theatre. Here’s an ad from 1918.
Samuel A. Davidson operated the competing Royal Theatre which had opened in 1916 and purchased the Liberty knowing the town could likely support just one film transitioning to sound. The Liberty became that theater with the Royal closed in 1929. R.O. Lee took on the Liberty changing it to the Lee Theatre. It’s taken on by the Glen W. Dickenson Circuit. It’s likely that the Lee was changed to its final name of the Vale Theatre.
