I became Manager of the Tolmer Cinema from August 1968 - November 1969. This was the last cinema of a small circuit that was owned by the Pomson family. It was run by David Pomson on behalf of his Mother, who was still very attached to it and used to come as relief Manager on my day off, during the evening an accountant from Conway Accountants took over, he would write out the suppliers cheques and the staff wages cheque. Mr Conway was David Pomson’s Brother-in-law. It was a great challenge during my first few weeks, the previous management had been jailed for ticket fraud. Other problems arose, on one Sunday I arrived and was met by a distraught projectionist who informed me the male cleaners had broken into the projection box and showed the Sunday films leaving most of the film on the projection room floor!!! Not only that the cinema had not been cleaned. Somehow the projectionist got it all together and all the Sunday staff mucked in with the cleaning opening the cinema just half an hour late than advertised.
