Big D Drive-In
The Big D began life as the Hines Blvd. Drive-In in 1950. In hopes of rebranding itself to reach a wider population, it changed to the Big D in 1951. In time for the winter of 1952, it added a 300-seat drive-in which was believed to be the first of its kind in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Unlike the Brazos Drive-In in Granbury which had separate projection, the Big D looked onto the screen. And, as you can see, the Big D wasn’t afraid to throw in some provocative, exploitation films or do a little showmanship from time to time.
