There’s a certain honesty in the opening ad for the Dec. 16, 1922 launch of the Capitol. The top line is, “best lighted theater front in America” and below, “most gorgeously decorated exterior in the south.” The truth is that the interior of the Capitol wasn’t all that great and the Capitol didn’t have the budget of its competitors which opened in the 12 months prior. But the front of the building was very well lit… no question. Here, the Capitol opens with “Slim Shoulders.”
