Strand Theatre
The Strand’s original nameplate, the Hippodrome — which had been known as the place to see movies — began mixing in live stage shows that got racier to attract audiences. See a Hopalong Cassidy film, some live stage performances and the movie, “Half-Way to Hell.” This was an eccentric film-burlesque-exploitation house not dissimilar to the nearby Fox Theater.
