In 1926, the Circle Theater could have been one of the most influential movie theaters in the area as it took a chance on installing the first Vitaphone sound system in Dallas. Unfortunately, new owners removed the system and – finally – the theater was equipped for theatrical sound again on August 21, 1943. Joy Theatres Inc. of New Orleans opened its 63rd location with “Leopard Men of Africa” and “Tanks a Million” at the rebranded Joy Theatre. The deep discount theater muddled by less than five years before ending the theatrical life of the Joy/Little Theater/Uptown/Showplace/Circle.
