New Maple Theater
In planning for Edmund G. Peterson’s conceptualized Fleetwood Square, the New Maple Theater would be incorporated into this ambitious proposal for completion in 1961 as pictured – it’s the long building in the center of this sketch. But while major renovations were made to the new Maple Theater, a competing and similarly purposed project by Trammell Crow led Peterson and Crow to combine their proposals. Sadly for the Maple and Margo Jones which had moved into and remodeled the theater, the Dallas Market Center was built nearby. Soon thereafter, plans were executed to construct an apartment complex with retail space built upon what was the new Maple ending the theater’s lively run. Its address was a Japanese restaurant within the new complex.
