Iowa City Drive-In
Here’s one more pre-opening photo, one week earlier, from the May 6, 1949 edition of the Iowa City Press-Citizen. The original caption:
Iowa City’s Drive-In Theatre, the first of its kind ever constructed in this area, has set May 15 as its opening date. Established by a local group, the Highway Theatre Co., on a tract of land just west of Coralville on Highway 6, the open-air theater has a capacity of 400 automobiles. This is the facade of the theater. The screen is on the opposite side of the high portion of the structure. (Press-Citizen Photo).
Not my copyright, of course, and probably in the public domain.
