Photograph of Organist Edwin Gates who opened the Carlton Cinema organ on Monday 17th December 1934. At the age of 21 he was engaged after an audition and interview from opening night for three years after which he moved yo the Regal Dewsbury. Later engaged by A.B.C. as guest Organist for their cinemas. Blind from Meningitis when a baby at twenty months old. After the War Gates remodelled a Hammond LeFleur electronic organ and had made an elaborate console as seen in the picture above featuring his initials E & G in the design. He toured to many various venues and was very popular during those Post-War years.
