Carlton Cinema Norwich

The new Carlton opened on Monday 17th December 1934 and above is the stylish entrance foyer, this rare photograph is from the Mollo collection. The two panels of large fish swimming through marine vegetation was designed by a registered process invented by Eugene Mollo A.R.C.A. Images were gained by means of a time consuming process, by spraying a photographic emulsion directly onto the surface to be decorated, printing onto it the photograph by projector and subsequently developing, fixing and washing the image again by spraying. Although expensive and time consuming, Mollo used this process in cinemas, such as the ‘Paris’ Regent Street and ‘Apollo’ Manchester also at the Embassy Court Brighton.
