The Weirton Shopping Plaza opened theatre-less in September of 1962 anchored by a Grant’s Discount Store, A&P Grocery, Thrift Drugs, Western Auto, and outparcel Burger Chef. In 1969, a space was carved out bringing Gardner Theatres of Wheeling the new Plaza hardtop. John Gardner (at left) created this $125,000 automated suburban theater which would be joined by a tiny outparcel Fotomat drive-through location in 1970.
