Rare Art Deco silver medal by Jean Vernon (French, 1897 – 1975) commemorating the launch and maiden voyage of ‘S.S. Normandie’ 29th May 1935, for the Compagnie Generale Transatlantique French Line. Showing standing diaphanous goddess releasing a seahorse from chains with inscription ‘NORMANDIE’ and signed Jean Vernon, the rim inscribed 2 Argent. Reverse face showing a port side view of the liner under full steam with inscriptions ‘NORMANDIE 79280T. Cie Gle TRANSATLANTIQVE French Line LE HAVRE - NEW-YORK 1935’. Medal recessed into original crimson velvet lined interior of the wooden presentation box covered in red leather with company name ‘NORMANDIE’ incised in gold.
