Plaza Cinema Worthing
Eugene Mollo designed the auditorium with subaqueous Eugene Mollo designed the auditorium with subaqueous treatments, the ceiling was finished in silver with side walls covered in painted shades of green and blue giving an interpretation of an underwater cavern, ceiling and walls containing embedded glazed lighting strips of white opal, flashed over in coral pink. The screen curtains display eye catching underwater images of aquatic life swimming amongst marine vegetation hand painted onto a pale background by artist Mollo himself, lighting changes would enhance detail more when lit with a variance of blues and greens. Mollo carried out many ocean themed designs in his cinema interior decorations especially when built at sea resorts, (see Cinema Treasures, Regent cinema Dover.) The Plaza seating for 2,500 upholstered in aquamarine blue, seating and fitted carpets were manufactured and fitted by Pixtons Ltd., London. Full stage facilities were installed for the busy summer season, the stage was 45ft wide with flying room of 58ft for safety curtain and scenery, which was put to full use during the Christmas pantomime season. Fibrous plaster works were carried out by Plaster Decoration Co., Ltd., 30 Stannary Street London.
