The tiles from the old theatre - The Yarraville townhouse owner was fascinated to discover remnants of the buildings’ theatrical history while renovating - The three-bedroom home at 114 Stephen St is located within the former Lyric Theatre, which opened circa-1920 and closed in the 1980s.

We purchased the vacant structure in the late 1990s after it had been used as a clothing factory.

While digging out a basement cellar underneath the ground floor, we came across tiles from the ex-theatre’s foyer. We discovered graffiti dated May 1930 on one of the walls, although most of the writing was indiscernible.

“We have ended up with a very liveable space of three bedrooms, three bathrooms and one-and-a-half kitchens if using the whole space,” the owner said.
