The Amusu Theatre was opened in the 1930’s and had 750 seats. In 1937 it was renamed Strand Theatre and continued to operate until February 1979 when it was demolished to build a shopping centre and new Strand Theatre on the site.

The Strand Theatre was opened in 1980 as a single screen cinema. It was taken over by Bigscreen Cinemas in mid-1990 and converted into 5-screens, now operating as Bigscreen Cinemas Caloundra.
