Originally known as the Lyceum Picture Gardens (opened on 5 November 1919 sitting alongside the Lyceum theatre) then renamed the State Summer Gardens & theatre in 1930 (pictured)- 1941 and an Act of Parliament decreed that no private business could use the term “State” in its name.
