Located in the north-western Adelaide suburb of Woodville. The Woodville Hall was opened on 12th April 1927, and screened films from the beginning, when it was leased from the council by the Clifford Theatres chain. The opening film was “We’re In the Navy Now” starring Wallace Beery. It was a two level hall, with seating in the orchestra on a level floor, and 596 seats in the balcony.
$By 1934, it was known as the Woodville Town Hall. Operated by the Clifford Theatres/Star Theatres chain until 1947, when they were taken over by the Greater Union Cinemas chain. The Star Theatre was closed on 9th November 1974.
In March 2011, there is talk of re-opening the building in the future, as an occasional cinema. The building is Heritage listed - Notes by Ken Roe
