“This was the De LUXE Theatre located on Main Street between Lansdowne and Matheson Ave. in North End Winnipeg…the kids from our neighbourhood flocked there on Saturday afternoons year after year…it was 10c to get in on Saturday afternoon. There were usually two full length movies and two 6 minute cartoons…once in a while, there was just one movie and about 15 6 minute cartoons. Sometimes at night my Mom would take me there to see something. I went there countless times before we ever had television, so much of my "learning about the world” took place in this building. This photo shows it in disrepair, but in my memory banks this was a place that “showed me the world”…thanks to Lucille Pilutik, one of my favourite teachers from Luxton School for sending me this picture…the memories attached to this visual for me are beyond counting.."
