This is the ORIGINAL Canterbury Theatre and harks from the silent era. It was replaced by a newer deco-style streamlined Hoyts Theatre in the late 30s located just across the street. The new theatre became a dance hall after closure and was demolished in the 1980s after a fire. As is often the case, the older building outlived its replacement.
