Avalon Theatre 52 - 54 Melville Street, Hobart, TAS
Opened as a Temperance Hall in may 1890. Used for live entertainment from 1890 to 1920’s. Used as an ice skating rink on 30th September 1918. Known as Bijou Theatre from the 1920’s. Opened as Hobart’s first talkie theatre opening on 11th March 1932.
Became Hobart’s only 70mm theatre, in 1966 screening “My Fair Lady”. Taken over by Village Cinemas in July 1969. Closed in November 1976.
