Thirty-Two Weeks + 2 Days
“Rocky” opened on February 2, 1977 in two theaters: the Continent and the Forum. The movie’s last day was September 15, 1977 at the Continent, or 226 days. “Rocky’s” last day was July 12, 1977, or 161 days at the Forum. The movie was ranked number one in 1976 for domestic box office. Evidently, the movie opened in Columbus well past the national release date of November 21, 1976. “Rocky” is most likely the second longest running film in the Continent and the Forum. Sylvester Stallone was probably the biggest first-time star in movie history and the film had to be the biggest ‘sleeper’ of all time. Stallone was voted the number one box office star for 1977.
