Nettlefold Hall Cinema West Norwood
The most difficult films to obtain at the time were those made by Hazel Ascot, Britain’s answer to Shirley Temple. I managed after many ‘phone calls able to track her down. Her married name being Mrs Hazel Banting, when asked if she would attend the showing of “Stepping Toes” which in 1938 was an enormous success having opened in the huge Paramount cinema Tottenham Court Road. After much persuasion Hazel agreed to attend the screening on Saturday evening 8th July, to a packed house and after the screening going on stage to answer a variety of questions. Perhaps the most surprising reply was that Hazel had last seen the film during 1938 a time lapse of forty years.
