Hoyts Maling Theatre 72 Maling Road, Melbourne, VIC
The Hoyts Maling theatre closed as a picture theatre on February 12, 1959, and was converted into a dance hall -
One of the artists that sang there regularly was Rock ‘n’ Roll Pioneer Malcolm Arthur (pictured) Malcolm often performed with his band “Malcolm Arthur & His Knights”
Jenny Barlow writes on Facebook - Who remembers going to Canterbury Rock Maling Rd the old picture Theatre in the 60 s
Pure unadulterated rock all the local bands who couldn’t really play turned up plus the local Bodgies and Widgies if u can remember them u are giving your age away -
I do remember the outstanding group was The Thin Men who did move on to bigger things.Rock and Roll was Fun Pure fun. The red velvet seats left over from the halcyon days of the pictures, somewhere to have a good snog between Jives - Maling Road is now a very upmarket group of Shops and Tourist attraction -
There is a gold marker set in the footpath where the theatre once stood - Some of the locals who went there still remember.
