PRINCE REGENT THEATRES - AN AUSPICIOUS OPENING. LARGE ATTENDANCE ADMIRES ITS OUTSTANDING BEAUTY.

It is over a quarter of a century since moving pictures were first shown in Sale and as the industry developed successive attempts were made to establish the attraction on a permanent basis, but without success. Sale people were unappreciative. This indifference was later on broken down and Mr. Gordon Green succeeded in gaining sufficient patronage to encourage him to remain here catering in this way for the Sale and district public.

Two biograph machines have been installed, of Kalee make, and Mr. Webb has provided duplicate control switches for house lighting in the compartment. The stage curtain is also controlled from this operating box. Mr. John R.. Brennan, who occupies the position of chairman of directors, is a young man who has “made good” in a commercial sphere by his own endeavours.

In the building of the Prince Regent Theatre, Sale, he has taken a very close interest and much of the detail and finish that was in evidence on the opening night is due to his personal oversight and originality. On the board of directors he has associated with him Hon E. J. White. M.L.C., of Hamilton, Mr. F. N. Johnson, and Mr. A.Vassy. Mr. Talbot, well and favorably known in the moving picture world, has undertaken the duties of circuit manager and is responsible amongst other things for the choice of pictures to be shown at the Prince Regent theatre..

Mr.Delevante has been appointed biograph operator. Mr. M. T. Cullinan will now assume the role of local manager. Local young ladies have been provided as ushers, ticket sellers, etc.,“and their uniforms add a distinctive tone to the theatre.

The shops fronting the theatre have been leased, one to contain confectionery and refreshments, having been secured by Mr. Frank Lazzaro, while the other will be opened as a music and wireless establishment by Mr. Moritz, who occupies the position as violinist in the orchestra. The musical director in the orchestra is Mr. A. E. Matthews, and under his baton are seven other players.

On the opening night the orchestra’s playing was a revelation to local music lovers, There was no preponder- ance of jazzy music, and legitimate orchestral selections were rendered throughout the screening with delightful taste and sympathy. The opening overture, “Rheinfels,” was roundly applauded by those present, while their versatility in rendering. the Spanish jazz “Barcelona” as an entre act was also’ rapturously received. This orchestra is an acquisition to the theatre and will prove a strong attraction.
